About the Agency for Clinical Innovation
The Agency for Clinical Innovation (ACI) works with clinicians, consumers and managers to design and promote better healthcare for NSW. We provide expertise in service redesign and evaluation, specialist advice on healthcare innovation, initiatives including clinical guidelines and models of care, implementation support, knowledge sharing and continuous capability building.

Our Clinical Networks, Taskforces and Institutes provide a unique forum for people to collaborate to develop successful healthcare innovations. The ACI works closely with the Ministry of Health, Bureau of Health Information, Clinical Excellence Commission, Health Education and Training Institute and the Cancer Institute NSW. By bringing together leaders from primary, community and acute care settings we create an environment and capability for innovation and redesign and promote an integrated health system.

Statement
"NSW Health is committed to achieving a diverse workforce and strongly encourages applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people"

The ACI is committed to workforce diversity, increasing the representation of Aboriginal employees at the ACI through appropriate recruitment and retention and strategies, providing career development opportunities and ensuring that we become an organisation which demonstrates a high level of cultural competence within our staff and the work we do.

Purpose of the position
The ACI LGBTIQ+ Resource for change for mental health services across NSW Project is funded through the NSW LGBTIQ+ Health Funding Pool 2022-23 and 2023-24. The NSW LGBTIQ+ Health Strategy 2022-2027 vision is for LGBTIQ+ people in NSW to receive high quality, safe, inclusive and responsive healthcare that delivers outcomes that matter to them.

The Strategy provides direction to all NSW Health organisations and staff, so that collectively we can deliver the best care to LGBTIQ+ people and work with them to achieve optimal health and wellbeing. The evidence is clear that LGBTIQ+ people experience poorer health outcomes, overall, than the general population. This is driven by the health issues and barriers to healthcare that disproportionately impact the health and wellbeing of the LGBTIQ+ population.

The ACI LGBTIQ+ Subject Matter Expert with Lived Experience (SME-LE) position will work on a project to support the NSW LGBTIQ+ Health Strategy 2022 – 2027 by addressing access and quality of care for LGBTIQ+ young people.

The role will work collaboratively with the Project Manager and a range of stakeholder to facilitate their contribution to the project. The stakeholders include ACI Clinical Networks, Local Health Districts and Specialty Health Networks Child and Adolescent Services (CAMHS) and Adult Mental Health Services (AMHS), ACON, Intersex Human Rights Australia, Twenty 10, consumers and carers and other key stakeholders to facilitate their contribution to the project.
  1. Tertiary qualifications and demonstrated extensive experience in mental health services, either in senior mental health clinical or project roles.
  2. In depth understanding and experience of contemporary issues, challenges and directions facing young people who identify as LGBTIQ+ and who access mental health services across NSW and the ability to provide subject matter expertise/lived experience advice to the project.
  3. Ability to work with and earn the trust and respect of LGBTIQ+ people, communities and organisations.
  4. Demonstrated experience in project management and implementation of local/regional projects, frameworks and/or initiatives with state-wide application.
  5. Demonstrated experience working in a complex environment dealing with and influencing senior management and external stakeholders to meet project needs in a timely manner.
  6. Excellent oral and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to present information in a manner understood by both technical and non-technical audiences and the provision of written detailed reports, briefs and submissions.
  7. Demonstrated excellent time management and organisational skills and the ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
  8. Ability to travel and be available for site visits across NSW.
