About you

We are seeking motivated and committed Paramedics with:

  • Ability to remain calm and professional in high pressure, stressful situations.
  • An ability to act quickly to alleviate patient, family, and bystander stress.

To be eligible to apply, you must:

  • Be a current NSW Ambulance employee who has completed all mandatory and relevant training and work experience, as determined by NSW Ambulance, to be credentialed to a minimum clinical level of P1 Paramedic.
  • Be able to demonstrate two (2) years’ full-time equivalency experience with NSW Ambulance at the P1 Paramedic level, prior to the closing date of applications,
  • Meet and maintain the minimum level of physical fitness required for the role.
  • Be comfortable working at heights, wide open and confined spaces, and varying environmental conditions.
  • Hold and maintain an Australian Medium Rigid (MR) Driver’s Licence prior to commencing an allocated Rescue Training Course.
  • Be willing to undertake, in water, flood rescue training.
  • Undertake and maintain additional vaccinations periodically to ensure physical / medical suitability for the rescue capability.

Applicant testing and offer process

Applicants progressing past the cull phase, will proceed to testing. Testing comprises of:

  1. Special Operations physical, mechanical reasoning and aptitude assessments.
  2. Panel Interview.
  3. A clinical based scenario.
  4. A pre-employment medical assessment.

Successful applicants will be placed on an eligibility list, ranked in meritorious order. This list will be used to fill rescue training opportunities arising for up to 18 months. Training and posting opportunities will be subject to existing vacancies and demand. Successful applicants placed on the eligibility list and offered a course position more than six (6) months after their physical fitness assessment may be required to repeat the assessment.

    • What specific strategies do you employ to maintain your resilience? (max. 180 words)
