What you'll be doing
Provide treatment and/or referral for patients with unplanned, sub or non-acute health care needs in emergency, using advanced clinical skills and reasoning to assess the patient’s health and medical needs and enhance patient outcomes in line with Ambulance policies and procedures
This position also undertakes the duties of a Paramedic or Intensive Care Paramedic (ICP) depending on the clinical skills level and requirements of the situation.
ECPs are a primary point of contact into the health care system for patients with sub or non-acute health care needs that do not necessarily require presentation to an Emergency Department (ED). As members of the local health care teams, ECPs use clinical skills to work across traditional boundaries in emergency and unplanned care, working collaboratively with the local health care teams, the broader Ambulance organisation and other health care and emergency services to provide high quality and safe patient centred care to the public.
ECPs work as part of the response to emergency and non-emergency calls, using clinical algorithms, guidelines and pathways assess and manage patient needs and provide patients with the right care at the right time. ECPs may treat and refer to a specific pathway within the ECP level of clinical competency or treat and discharge the patient as appropriate.

- Applicants must hold all required certifications, licences, registrations and qualifications (including but not limited to current Certificate to Practice as a Paramedic Specialist (ECP), registration as a paramedic, and a current NSW Driver Licence) and undertake necessary and relevant training and work experience as determined by NSW Ambulance
- Demonstrated ability to provide clinical care to meet patient’s healthcare needs especially in non-acute settings.
- Demonstrated high level of interpersonal communication skills and written communication skills, especially in regard to clinical documentation and referral to relevant community and health professionals.
- Demonstrated clinical reasoning, research, analytical and problem solving skills for the assessment of patient needs, review of patient health care records and determination of best care alternatives.
- Demonstrated ability in working as a part of multidisciplinary teams and an interest in working as part of the program development team.
- Demonstrated ability to organise, establish priorities and manage referrals from other staff
- Knowledge of quality improvement and patient safety and a willingness to participate in clinical audit and research. Knowledge and experience in applying the Code of Conduct and privacy legislation requirements.
- Computer literacy Computer literacy with demonstrated ability to learn and operate new and existing electronic patient records, data terminals etc. Ability to use information and communication technology such as Internet (CIAP or similar), ECP database, Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
