Extended Care Paramedic (training) 2022/2023

Metropolitan Operations

 

Paramedics covered by the Paramedics and Control Centre Officers (State) Award and who meet all the criteria and conditions as detailed below, are invited to submit an expression of interest to undertake the Extended Care Paramedic (ECP) selection process for training and two-year consolidation period at:

  • Blacktown
  • Northmead
  • Penrith
  • Bankstown
  • Artarmon
  • Haberfield
  • Kogarah
  • Liverpool

Available training and consolidation locations will be offered in order of merit to the successful applicants.

The ECP provides definitive care and referral to community-based health services for a range of presentations including chronic and complex care. ECPs deliver clinical leadership and mentoring to other paramedics, and assist in implementing best practice clinical interventions, treatment pathways and health strategies. They have an advanced skill set with additional protocols and pharmacologies to manage presentations ranging from acute injuries to chronic and complex care.

 

Do you possess these Key Skills?

  • High level clinical knowledge and skills to meet patient’s healthcare needs especially in non-acute settings.
  • High level of interpersonal communication skills and written communication skills.
  • Excellent clinical reasoning, research, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Managing, administering and/or supplying medication and treatment in accordance with relevant legislation and protocols, guidelines and policies.
  • Demonstrated ability to organise and establish priorities, and manage referrals from other staff.
  • Knowledge of quality improvement and patient safety, and a willingness to participate in clinical audit and research. Knowledge and experience in applying the Code of Conduct and privacy legislation requirements.
  • Technology literacy with demonstrated ability to learn and operate new and existing technology required to perform the role.

Prerequisites

  • Applicants must be a paramedic with current Paramedic Registration and credentialed by NSW Ambulance to a minimum clinical level of P1. Applicants must have completed a minimum of 1 year P1 (or equivalent for part time - 1,976 hours) with NSW Ambulance (or like-minded statutory Ambulance Service and credentialed by NSW Ambulance) by the closing date for applications.
  • This opportunity is for permanent, full-time employment. Applicants who are currently working substantively part-time, will need to relinquish their current part-time employment status and accept full-time ECP training. Successful completion of ECP training will result in a requirement for full-time consolidation at the same location.
  • Part-time ECP opportunities are undergoing discussion and consultation at this time.

·        Applications can be received from across New South Wales. However, successful regional applicants will relinquish their substantive position, after training and consolidation, and be permanently appointed to a metropolitan station with a dedicated ECP roster. If training is not satisfactorily completed, the applicant will return to their regional paramedic position.

  • Appointment to this position is subject to a satisfactory Conduct and Service Check and reference checks with two direct line managers.
  • Applicants who are serving a consolidation period for another position will need to have completed this before the ECP course commencement. The course commencement date is currently scheduled for September 2022.

General Information

  • Assessments may include online cognitive ability and emotional intelligence components, as well as a series of multiple mini interviews with a range of assessors. Please note: all discussions will be conducted in person and you will need to attend a location in Metropolitan Operations unless other arrangements are in place due to COVID-19 restrictions.
  • Applications are considered to be an expression of interest, and applicants are agreeing to report at the locations nominated by NSW Ambulance for the training period:
      • Didactic - various locations Metropolitan Sydney (9 weeks).
      • On road training/assessment - designated ECP ambulance station (14 weeks unless extended).
  • An eligibility list may be created if additional ECP courses arise within the 18-month period.

Training Conditions – COVID 19 Planning Measure

The training course may be suspended or relocated, even after it has commenced, without notice and staff returned to normal operational rosters. If this caveat does not meet your individual learning needs, you should reconsider your application for this position.
