Achieve Something Great
Safeguards delivers a 6 week intensive, therapeutic outreach program designed to engage and support some of our most vulnerable infants, children and adolescents, particularly those who face barriers to accessing traditional clinic based services. Embedded within Infant, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (iCAMHS), the program is supported by a highly skilled and multidisciplinary team with strong expertise in infant and child mental health.
This position plays a vital role in supporting Aboriginal children, young people, families and carers engaged with Safeguards, while also strengthening the cultural responsiveness and safety of mental health services across the District. The role sits within a large, well established Aboriginal Mental Health team across South Western Sydney LHD, offering strong professional and cultural peer support.
As part of a growing network of Senior and Principal Aboriginal Health Workers, this position provides cultural leadership, guidance and support to Aboriginal Mental Health Workers across the Macarthur to Wingecarribee region, contributing to service development, community partnerships and improved outcomes for Aboriginal consumers and families.
Are You the Right Fit?
This role is ideally suited to an experienced Aboriginal Health Worker who is passionate about improving the social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal children, young people and families, and who brings strong cultural knowledge, leadership capability and a collaborative mindset.
You will have experience working with children, adolescents and families within mental health, wellbeing or community based settings, and a demonstrated ability to provide culturally responsive, trauma informed and recovery oriented care. Your approach is strengths based and family centred, with a strong commitment to supporting Aboriginal cultural identity, connection and self determination.
As a Senior or Principal practitioner, you will enjoy providing cultural leadership, mentoring and professional support to Aboriginal Mental Health staff, helping to foster culturally safe workplaces and build workforce capability. You will work confidently within multidisciplinary teams and take a proactive role in strengthening relationships with Aboriginal community controlled organisations, service partners and stakeholders.
You will thrive in this role if you are confident, values driven and committed to advocacy, service improvement and culturally safe practice, while working within legislative, ethical and organisational frameworks. This position offers a meaningful opportunity to influence systems, support staff, and create lasting positive outcomes for Aboriginal children, young people and their families.
