The position provides medical services to patients, while developing expertise and skills in medical practice, in a complex and supported clinical environment in inpatient and outpatient areas in a NSW public health organisation.
The position supports medical graduates of AMC accredited universities to meet the requirements for general registration as set out by the Medical Board of Australia, allowing general registration as a medical practitioner to Australian and New Zealand medical graduates registration standard on completion of intern training.
The Health Education and Training Institute (HETI) has delegated authority from the NSW Ministry of Health to allocate medical graduates to prevocational training networks in NSW on behalf of Local Health Districts (LHDs) or Public Health Organisations or as otherwise determined by HETI.
Beginning your career in NSW Health as an intern marks the transition from student to a medical practitioner.
NSW offers a spectrum of prevocational training opportunities, from major metropolitan hubs within Sydney, thriving large regional centres and diverse rural communities. All our intern training facilities are accredited against approved standards ensuring that the prevocational training years will be rich in learning opportunities, with valuable hands-on supervised experience, and well supported.
To apply for a Prevocational Training position in NSW medical graduates must:
1. Meet eligibility and NSW Health priority list criteria
2. Be expected to complete your medical degree this year or have completed your medical degree in the past two years
3. Have not previously worked as a doctor.
There are four recruitment pathways to obtain a prevocational training position in NSW. The pathways offer positions sequentially in the following order in accordance with the NSW Health priority list. Click on each of the pathways below to find out more;
