The Clinical Nurse Specialist Grade 2 (CNS2) Research and Quality at Sydney Sexual Health Centre is a Registered Nurse who assists in coordinating and implementing the broad-based collaborative research programs at SSHC in conjunction with the Clinical Nurse Consultant Grade 3 (CNC3), the Clinical Nurse Consultant Grade 1 (CNC1), and the other members of the multidisciplinary team. 

The CNS2 provides expert clinical guidance to the research and quality team at SSHC. 
The CNS2 actively reviews processes and practices at SSHC to gain improvement. 
The CNS2 actively participates in the education and training of other staff members and undergraduate and post graduate students. 
  
The primary purpose of this position is to: 

  • Coordinate clinical trials within SSHC to a high standard to ensure accurate and timely data collection.
  • Work with the CNCs to facilitate research projects focusing on the epidemiological, behavioural, and clinical aspects of Sexual Health and Blood Borne Viruses (SHBBVs) among SSHC's target populations.
  • Assist with submissions for research grants and human research ethics committee approval.
  • Support and assist clinical staff in the conduct of quality improvement (QI) activities and research. Assist with the preparation and submission of manuscripts and posters for publication as required.
  • Assist with clinical data collection, collation, and analyses to monitor and evaluate the clinical service objectives and outcomes of SSHC.
  • Assist in the reporting of relevant clinical data to SESLHD, NSW Ministry of Health and other organisations as required.SSHC is one of the SESLHD Sexual Health and Blood Borne Virus Services, and this position may collaborate with those services as required.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Current registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA).
  2. Relevant post graduate qualification (or working towards) in sexual health, Public Health or equivalent and at least 3 years recent experience working in the SHBBV clinical area or clinical research.
  3. Prior involvement in research and/or quality assurance/quality improvement projects (including maintaining relevant documentation and accurate and timely data collection).
  4. Demonstrated ability to exercise extended autonomy of decision making while working as part of a multidisciplinary team and apply professional and ethical boundaries when dealing with complex situations.
  5. Demonstrated skills in the facilitation of quality improvement/assurance projects and audits.
  6. Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to identify key messages, issues and concerns when communicating with others.
  7. Knowledge and understanding of the principles of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and the ability to apply professional and ethical boundaries in clinical practice.
