This is a new and exciting position that will lead Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD) in its implementation of the NSW Health Child Safe Standards Action Plan across all services and facilities, in turn meeting its legislative responsibilities as a prescribed NSW Government Agency under the NSW Children’s Guardian Child Safe Scheme.

Where you'll be working
The position is a part of the Prevention and Response to Violence Abuse and Neglect (PARVAN) Service and is based at the Royal North Shore Community Health Centre.

What you'll be doing

This Child Safe and Child Protection Project Officer will play a key role in supporting planning and implementation of the NSW Health Child Safe Standards across Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD) with the aim of creating a strong organisational culture of child safety that considers the diverse needs of children across the district. The role will be responsible for building awareness of the legislated requirements for child safe organisations, supporting the development of local Implementation plans which align with the NSW Health Child Safe Action Plan and for providing leadership, oversight and monitoring progress and compliance.  The position also leads the planning and coordination of strategic, quality projects and awareness raising and capacity building initiatives to improve identification and responses to child abuse and neglect in NSLHD.  This position will be supported by a Child Safe Standards Implementation Steering Committee with nominated representatives from across the district.

People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background are encouraged to apply.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  1. Relevant tertiary qualifications in project management or relevant equivalent work experience, or a combination of study and work experience.
  2. Demonstrated understanding of Child Safe Standards, requirements for implementation including risk management and risk mitigation approaches along with a working knowledge of legislation and NSW Health policies pertaining to child protection and child wellbeing.
  3. Demonstrated high level analytical and problem-solving skills that lead to the development of innovative solutions to meet workplace needs within a multidisciplinary team environment.
