Trainee – Unaccredited Position – Orthopaedic Surgery
Griffith Base Hospital
Consolidate your skills and prepare for a career in Orthopaedics
What you'll be doing
The Unaccredited Orthopaedic Trainee role offers PGY3+ doctors the opportunity to develop and consolidate orthopaedic surgical skills within a busy regional hospital under structured supervision.
The position provides broad clinical exposure across the Orthopaedic Department, including rotations through subspecialty units and involvement in emergency and after‑hours orthopaedic workload in theatres and the Emergency Department.
Responsibilities and autonomy are aligned to the trainee’s level of experience, with a strong emphasis on high‑quality, evidence‑based patient care, professional development, and teamwork. This role is well suited to doctors with a genuine interest in pursuing a career in Orthopaedics, particularly within a rural or regional setting.
In accepting this position, you will uphold core NSW public sector values, including cultural diversity, equity, ethical practice, and contributing to a healthy, safe, and fair workplace.
Where you'll be working
Griffith Base Hospital is a well‑established regional facility providing comprehensive care to the Riverina community.
The 119‑bed hospital includes 100 acute care beds and 10 maternity beds, supporting approximately 19,500 emergency presentations, 2,500 surgical procedures, and 600 births each year. A 24‑hour Emergency Department with 15 treatment spaces is supported by an on‑site Intensive Care Unit and enhanced by telehealth connectivity to the NSW Critical Care Advisory Service, ensuring access to specialist expertise when needed.
The hospital is currently undergoing a major $250 million redevelopment, on track for completion in 2026, which will deliver modern clinical facilities and significantly enhance the working environment for staff. This investment reflects a strong commitment to high‑quality patient care and to supporting clinicians with contemporary infrastructure and resources.
