About the Role
Cessnock Hospital is seeking a skilled and motivated Sterilisation Technician to join our dedicated Central Sterilising Department (CSD) team on a casual basis.
In this role, you will be responsible for the reprocessing of reusable medical devices, including decontamination, inspection, packaging, and process verification. You will also maintain accurate tracking and traceability through electronic systems, ensuring compliance with sterilisation and infection control standards.
While sterilisation is currently performed off-site, you will play a key role in preparing instruments for transport and ensuring quality assurance processes are maintained. The role also involves assisting with endoscope reprocessing and liaising closely with the perioperative team regarding surgical lists and equipment requirements.
About the Facility
Cessnock Hospital is located in a vibrant regional community surrounded by vineyards, award-winning dining, and scenic countryside. Conveniently situated just 30 minutes from Maitland and 40 minutes from John Hunter Hospital, the facility provides elective surgery across a range of specialties including General Surgery, Urology, Gynaecology, Endoscopy, Orthopaedics, and Dental care.
The hospital is currently undergoing a significant redevelopment, with a brand-new, fully equipped Sterilising Department to be delivered within the next 18 months.

You are a motivated and detail-focused Sterilisation Technician who takes pride in delivering safe, high-quality outcomes for patients and clinical teams. You thrive in a fast-paced environment, work confidently both independently and as part of a small, supportive team, and bring a positive, can-do attitude to your work.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Certificate III in Health Service Assistance (Sterilisation Services) or equivalent, with experience in a hospital sterilisation services department
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary environment, including use of electronic instrument tracking systems
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and evolving healthcare environment
- Sound knowledge of infection control and safe work practices
You will also demonstrate:
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team
- Professionalism, reliability, and a commitment to fostering a positive workplace culture
- A focus on continuous learning and contributing to service improvement
Desirable:
- Experience in endoscopy reprocessing, or willingness to learn on the job

Requirements:
Sterilisation Technology Certificate III in health service assistance (sterilisation services) or equivalent qualification and relevant experience in sterilisation services department within a healthcare facility.
