The welcoming and supportive team at Prince of Wales is seeking an experience and enthusiastic Speech Pathologist to join us in a 12-month maternity leave relief role. You will be providing an inpatient service on weekends, which attracts penalty rates, and an outpatient service on one weekday. This role is an exciting opportunity to develop increased autonomy by working more independently across the acute care wards at the weekend. Job share opportunities and flexible working arrangements will be considered for suitable applicants.

The Role
The vision for South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) is ‘exceptional care, healthier lives’. SESLHD is committed to enabling our community to be healthy and well, and to providing the best possible compassionate care when people need it.
In this role, you will plan, coordinate, and implement swallowing and communication assessment and management across diverse range of acute caseloads, demonstrating extensive generalist clinical knowledge. You will deliver high quality Speech Pathology care to both in and outpatients at Prince of Wales Hospital, consistent with NSW Health and South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) policies, procedures and standards.
Where You'll be Working
Prince of Wales is situated in the heart of the Eastern Suburbs, close to many of Sydney's iconic beaches with excellent bus and light rail connections to the city. The hospital recently opened its newly developed Acute Service Building where you will provide the majority of your ward-based care. The speech pathology team at Prince of Wales has experienced and dedicated clinicians who highly value the role of the weekend clinician. You will be welcomed as part of the team and offered clinical supervision and mentoring to ensure you continue to develop your clinical skills and progress your career.
Selection Criteria
To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the below questions as thoroughly as possible.
- Qualifications in accordance with Schedule C of the NSW Health Service Health Professionals (State) Award and eligibility for membership for Speech Pathology Australia
- Extensive post graduate clinical experience in speech pathology in the management of swallow and communication disorders in an acute adult caseload.
- Excellent negotiation, decision making and advocacy skills including the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, throughout all organisational levels
- Ability to provide in-depth advice and education to enhance service delivery and to guide and support others in providing service excellence, with the capacity to provide clinical supervision to other staff
- Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to apply advanced reasoning skills and independent professional judgement when dealing with situations of a novel, complex or critical nature
- Ability to initiate, lead, complete and share quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation processes and lead ongoing quality improvement activities with other staff
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing clinical and professional learning
- Demonstrated commitment to a positive workplace culture.
