The Senior Clinical Research Nurse (SCRN) is a highly specialised registered nurse who combines clinical nursing expertise with significant research knowledge and skills in order to deliver rigorous, high-quality clinical research. This research contributes to evidence based health care and improved outcomes for clinical trial patients. This position will be expected to embrace and lead a practice development philosophy in the delivery of clinical research nursing in cancer services.
The SCRN will undertake comprehensive nursing assessments of complex research participants, providing expert clinical advice, leadership, consultation and educational support to optimise patient outcomes whilst managing and promoting high quality, compliant conduct of clinical trials in line with local, national and international regulations, policies and guidelines including ICH GCP.
The SCRN is expected to operate as an autonomous health professional within the service but will be required to demonstrate highly effective communication and negotiation skills with adept expertise in relationship building across the multidisciplinary team and with all key stakeholders in the clinical trial environment.
The SCRN will contribute to the awareness and professional development of the Clinical Research Nursing specialty at ISLHD acting as a senior resource and leader within the cancer service but also more broadly in the LHD. In line with professional expectations, the SCRN will maintain their professional accountability and development in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Board Australia’s Standards of Practice.
All ISLHD staff are expected to act as an appropriate and effective role model and promote culture and supporting practices that reflect the NSW Health CORE values of Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment through demonstrated behaviours and interactions with patients, clients and employees.
