Sydney Children's Hospitals Network is the largest paediatric health care entity in Australia. We care for thousands of children each year in our hospitals and in their homes — with one purpose in mind — to help young people live their healthiest lives.
What you'll be doing
Children with severe epilepsy often experience cognitive and behavioural challenges, some of which may improve following epilepsy surgery. Most available data is limited to retrospective studies, and there is a lack of standardized methods for comparing preoperative outcomes. A project has been established with the aim of investigating the potential reversal of cognitive deficits following epilepsy surgery. The team led by the Chief Investigator, Associate Professor, and Paediatric Neurologists have developed the research protocol as part of the DEER Clinical Excellence Research Study under the Kids Neuroscience Centre (KNC), The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.
The primary purpose of this position is to perform developmental and cognitive assessments and conduct research on neuropsychological outcomes in children with developmental epileptic encephalopathy (DEE) who are undergoing epilepsy surgery.
The clinical neuropsychologist will liaise and provide verbal and written feedback to patients, patient families and schools, where appropriate, as per best clinical practice. There will be additional research responsibilities including, but not limited to, assisting with intervention research studies, developing research protocols, and assisting with the analysis and publication of research.
The Clinical Neuropsychologist will be required to deliver clinical care in line with research protocols while also adhering to safe clinical practice.
Applicants currently enrolled in a combined Masters/PhD are eligible to apply if they have completed the equivalent of Masters degree requirements as part of the PhD pathway.
