This position is intended for members of the First Nations community, and we strongly encourage applications from individuals of First Nations descents. We have an exemption under rule 26 of the Government Sector Employment. Expressions of interest are being sought from NSW Ambulance Paramedics wishing to apply for Extended Care Paramedic (ECP) training and posting. 

  • Comprehensive didactic training by NSW Ambulance
  • A dedicated two (2) year consolidation period to refine skills
  • Permanent full-time employment as a Paramedic Specialist – Extended Care Paramedic
  • Working under the NSW Ambulance Paramedics (State) Award 2023.

Do you aspire to being a Clinical Leader as an Extended Care Paramedic?

The ECP provides definitive care and referral to community-based health services for a range of presentations including chronic and complex care. ECPs deliver clinical leadership and mentoring to other paramedics and assist in implementing best practice clinical interventions, treatment pathways and health strategies. They have an advanced skill set with additional protocols and pharmacologies to manage presentations ranging from acute injuries to chronic and complex care.

Do you possess these key skills and attributes?

  • High level clinical knowledge and skills to meet patient’s healthcare needs, especially in non-acute settings.
  • A passion for clinically leading in complex, uncertain and ambiguous environments, ensuring positive patient outcomes.
  • High level of interpersonal communication and written communication skills.
  • Excellent clinical reasoning, research, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Managing, administering and/or supplying medication and treatment in accordance with relevant legislation and protocol guidelines and policies.
  • Demonstrated ability to organise and establish priorities and manage referrals from other staff.
  • Knowledge of quality improvement and patient safety, and a willingness to participate in clinical auditing and research.
  • Technology literacy with demonstrated ability to learn and operate new and existing technology required to perform the role.

General Information

  • Assessments will include a series of multiple mini interviews with a range of assessors.
  • Applications are considered an expression of interest.
  • Applicants are agreeing to report at the locations nominated by NSW Ambulance for the training period:

o   Didactic - SOC Homebush (5 weeks).

o   Clinical Hospital Placement (5 weeks)

o   Didactic – SOC Homebush (3 weeks)

o   On road supervision - designated ECP location (1 week).

  •        A talent pool may be created if additional ECP courses arise within the 18-month period.
