The Role

The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) provides leadership and expertise in the care, management, education and support of patients, carers and other health professionals within St George Hospital through a specialist consultant service which:
- Develops, implements and evaluates care management plans for patients with complex health needs.
- Provides leadership, advice and recommendations on all aspects of nursing, consulting in matters relating to safe and appropriate use of orthopaedic related nursing practice.
- Provides leadership and evidence information in the ongoing development of nursing practice to enable high quality care.
- Contributes to the development and delivery of speciality related education programs.
- Participates in formal processes for the strategic and operational planning for the clinical service.

Selection Criteria
- Current authority to practice as a Registered Nurse, Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
- Minimum of 5 years full time equivalent post registration experience, with at least 3 years full time equivalent experience in the specialty field in an acute care facility, and/or post graduate qualifications relevant to the field of practice.
- Proven clinical leadership skills and an ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary framework with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in nursing practice
- Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills across a variety of mediums and an understanding of the practice development framework
- Proven ability to implement changes and develop direction in clinical practice by the utilisation of evidence-based research.
- Demonstrated skills in strategic and clinical service planning including an understanding of organisational behaviour, change management and cultural change processes.
- Demonstrated skills in clinical teaching, competence in the use of contemporary information systems and experience in the development of specialty education programs.
- Demonstrated clinical expertise in client-centred consultancy with the ability to work independently.
