What you'll be doing
  • The primary purpose of the position is to provide quality care to patients in a complex clinical environment.
  • Medical Officers will work under an appropriate level of supervision according to their level of competence to evaluate, diagnose, treat and provide consultation to patients of all ages presenting in any condition and will work in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • You may be required to work at the different facilities and locations with the NSW public health system as part of Central Coast Local Health District which includes Gosford, Wyong, Woy Woy and Long Jetty Hospitals.
  • Terms for the Unaccredited Trainee Cardiology at Central Coast Local Health District include 6 months in Wyong Cardiology and 6 months in Gosford Cardiology. Terms include some shifts in the after-hours general medicine roster for whole hospital. The position is full-time, Monday to Friday with rostered ward overtime, night shifts and on-call to cover sick relief for ward overtime. All overtime shifts are evenly distributed amongst Trainees. Participation in the Cardiology After-Hours roster may also be required. CCLHD has a strong commitment to vocational training and career support; access to BPT Teaching and Training and specific Cardiology Teaching and Training is offered. The candidate will be expected to participate in  educational activities organised by the Department of Cardiology and the medical grand rounds.
  • The position offers mentoring, supervision, workforce support and career guidance from a supportive Medical Workforce and Education Unit, Advanced Trainees, Staff Specialists and Visiting Medical Officer’s (VMOs),with exposure to medical terms that provide opportunity to develop the necessary skills and competencies before entering into further Training. 
  • The Unaccredited Trainee is responsible for coordinating and documenting the admission, management and discharge planning of patients within the unit; the day-to-day assessment and management of the patients, maintaining high levels of communication with patients and family regarding the nature of their condition and its treatment; communicating and coordinating care with the team; arranging consultation with other staff when appropriate; and arranging discharge and liaising with local medical officers and other community based care modalities in order to ensure the provision of optimal patient care within CCLHD.  
  • Their primary responsibility will be the care of cardiac patients in CCU and step down cardiac wards in collaboration with other members of the Cardiology team. With an expectation to participate in coordinating response for cardiac consults to admitted, non- cardiology patients and to respond to admitting calls from ED on behalf of the on-call cardiologist. They will be involved in consenting patients for cardiac interventions and will be involved in their after-care. They may be requested to participate in patients’ management in procedural areas under senior supervision; these include diagnostic cardiology laboratories and the cardiac angiography unit and may participate in cardiology outpatient clinics.
  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category,
  2. Completion of Basic Physician Training and preferably completion of the FRACP exam.
  3. Demonstrates commitment to ongoing cardiology training and education, excellent theoretical knowledge and clinical judgement, experience, research and teaching in Cardiology with a commitment to continuous quality improvement.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary clinical team, including providing leadership and direction to ensure appropriate management of patients as well as diligence, punctuality, organization, record keeping, time management, problem solving skills, team work.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise, with demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
  6. Demonstrated time management, problem solving skills and excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and computer skills, with minimum of 30 words per minute. Along with evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to self-education.
  7. Demonstrated understanding of how the District is Caring for the Coast and how this role would contribute.
