What you'll be doing
The District Health Information Manager position will lead and mentor a team of Health Information and Clinical Coding Managers to manage the Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD) Health Information Services (formerly known as Medical Record Departments).
The District Manager, HIS oversees the facility HIS Managers to ensure that an efficient, effective, innovative and timely service is provided to the organisation including all NSLHD acute, non-acute, outpatient facilities, services and community health functions.
The position is integral in ensuring NSLHD meets its reporting obligations for clinical coding and is essential to the financial viability of the LHD.
The role will also be responsible for the operational and strategic management of NSLHD Health Information Services including:

The position is integral in ensuring NSLHD meets its reporting obligations for clinical coding and is essential to the financial viability of the LHD.
The role will also be responsible for the operational and strategic management of NSLHD Health Information Services including:
- The development of strategies that promotes best practice and operational efficiencies.
- Ensure that sustainable structures and processes are in place to facilitate the timely coding of clinical data ensuring that NSLHD meets its reporting obligations for clinical coding under the ABF framework.
- Provide strong leadership with a focus on developing quality medical record coding to ensure the appropriate cost assignment for revenue funded under Activity Based Funding.
- To provide advice, exchange information, give presentations, negotiate and consult on a wide range of issues.
- Maintain involvement with IM&T and the strategies in moving towards an electronic medical record, including document imaging and the state wide clinical medical record (CMR)
- Tertiary qualifications in Health Information Management or significant progression towards same and/or equivalent experience
- Previous experience managing a medium to large Health Information Service
- Demonstrated leadership, motivational, advocacy, negotiating and assessment skills
- Knowledge and understanding of relevant NSW Health Department policies and procedures relevant to health information and medical record management
- Experience with leading a change management process
- Demonstrated capacity to use office computing applications including word processing, spreadsheets and databases
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to prepare, project documentation, high level reports, strategy papers, briefs, policies and procedures.
