MRI Senior Radiographer, Research (Medical Radiation Scientist) Level 4 Grade 2, Prince of Wales Hospital – Temporary Full Time up to 13 Sept 2030

Applications are invited for a temporary full-time Level 4 Grade 2 MRI Senior Radiographer (Research) position at the Prince of Wales Hospital Medical Imaging Department, part of the Randwick Health and Innovation Precinct.
This campus is one of the largest in Australia, affiliated with the University of NSW, and is a major tertiary referral centre catering to both paediatric and adult populations.
Research Imaging New South Wales (RINSW) is a research facility operated in collaboration with UNSW and the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District. It is located within the Prince of Wales Hospital precinct. The facility houses two 3T MRI scanners, Siemens Vida and Siemens Prisma, as well as a 4D XV scanner.
Clinical MRI services are provided in three separate locations across the Campus:
· 2 Siemens Avanto 1.5T in Campus Centre
· 1 Siemens VIDA 3T in POWH Acute Service Building
· 1 Siemens VIDA 3T shared with the University of NSW in the RINSW research facility
Clinical services Operating hours:
· Monday to Friday: 08:00 to 21:00
· Saturday and Sunday: 08:30 to 16:30
Research services Operating hours:
· Monday to Friday: 09:00-17:00

The Role
The successful candidate will support the Director of RINSW in overseeing and managing all aspects of research projects conducted within the facility. Key responsibilities include coordinating research studies, contributing to the development of imaging protocols, supervising research administrative staff, ensuring compliance and quality assurance across all research activities, and providing training and supervision for research radiographers.
RINSW performs MRI examinations involving a diverse range of research projects as well as clinical trial patients. Research imaging includes participating in large multi-site research projects, through to smaller research studies and includes both neuro imaging and body imaging. The successful candidate will work closely with a range of research scientists, and clinicians from diverse areas of interest including but not limited to epilepsy, brain aging, psychology, and thalassaemia.
Candidates should have extensive experience in coordinating and managing research studies, along with a strong understanding of research processes. A deep knowledge of MRI physics is essential, as is demonstrated experience in the education, training, and evaluation of MRI radiographers within a research setting. Familiarity with advanced MRI techniques are essential.
To maintain clinical competency and facilitate the integration of advanced imaging sequences into clinical practice, the successful applicant will be rostered to clinical areas in collaboration with senior clinical MRI radiographers.

Prince of Wales Hospital and Community Health Service is a Level 6 Tertiary Referral Hospital with an inpatient bed base of 370. Each year we care for more than 70,000 patients in our Emergency Department and have around 50,000 admissions to the inpatient units. POWH offers an outpatient service and rural outreach service and provides more than 900,000 occasions of non-admitted patient care each year, including innovative virtual models of care. We have transitioned the majority of inpatient units and wards to the Acute Services Building (ASB) including a state of the art Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit. Selection Criteria
To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the below questions as thoroughly as possible.
- Possession of AHPRA Medical Radiation Practitioner registration and EPA radiation license
- Possession of post graduate master’s in medical Imaging (major Magnetic Resonance Imaging) by recognised university and completion of at least 5 years post graduate experience in adult, paediatric and neonatal Research and clinical MRI services.
- Demonstrated strong leadership skills to enhance staff performance, influence workplace culture, and lead change
- Demonstrate experience in development and implementation of MRI and 4XV techniques and imaging protocols in both clinical and research settings.
- Demonstrate in-depth understanding of medical imaging workflow in major teaching hospital, with a sound understanding of information technology to manage effective workflow in multiple MR locations. Demonstrate in-depth understanding of research imaging workflow and procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with senior management, external researchers and other key stakeholders in a multi-disciplinary working environment.
- Demonstrated experience in MRI safety management framework and processes, particularly experience in the role of MRI safety expert within hospital and research settings
- Demonstrated extensive and current clinical experience in paediatric MRI examinations, particularly under general anaesthetic and child life therapy
