What you'll be doing
 

The primary purpose of the role is to develop appropriate knowledge and technical skills to fulfill the requirements of the RCPA for training in Anatomical Pathology and to become a competent consultant Anatomical Pathologist; and to fulfill the service requirements of the department. 

All laboratories participating Anatomical Pathology Training Program are accredited by the RCPA for specialist Anatomical Pathology training. All participating facilities perform a wide range of diagnostic Anatomical Pathology services. A number also perform work for smaller suburban hospitals within their network and for rural hospitals. 

Positions across the State-wide Anatomical Pathology Training Program are networked. Positions at larger laboratories (anchor sites) will be rotational with partner laboratories on a 6-month / 6-month basis. These positions will be given first priority in the annual allocation process for new trainees entering the training program before single site allocations. However, Continuing Trainees are eligible for these positions as well.

Selection Criteria:

  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
  2. Evidence of general registration and 24 months of clinical experience OR hold an Specialist International Medical Graduate determination issued by the RCPA.
  3. Demonstrated vocational interest in Anatomical Pathology through specific examples (e.g. previous employment, training or research in Anatomical Pathology or related fields; sitting Basic Pathological Sciences exam; attendance at Anatomical Pathology conferences).
  4. Demonstrated understanding of day to day working duties and career path of an Anatomical Pathology Trainee (e.g. visit to Anatomical Pathology laboratory, discussions with Anatomical Pathology trainees/consultants, exploration of RCPA website and NSW Health Pathology website).
  5. Demonstrated participation in quality improvement initiatives relevant to Anatomical Pathology.
  6. Demonstrated experience in working in a multidisciplinary team environment including improvement in patient care and understanding of the NSW Health Code of Conduct.
