What you'll be doing
 The primary focus of this position is to provide a comprehensive and specialist social work service to children, young people and their families referred from the relevant clinical area. This includes psychosocial assessments, specialist counselling including bereavement counselling, group work, psycho-education and advocacy. The social worker works as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team. 

The senior social work is required to play a key role in service development and continuous quality improvement to ensure clinical needs of children and their families are met. The position takes a leadership role in the development and provision of education programs in the relevant specialty for both social workers and health professionals within SCHN and externally. The social worker also provides a consultative role within bereavement to key stakeholders.

  1. Eligibility for AASW membership with significant post graduate experience in social work practice with families and children and/or in health context.
  2. Extensive specialist knowledge of the issues facing families in the relevant clinical area coupled with advanced skills in therapeutic counselling and casework in working with children and their families in the relevant specialty.
  3. Advance practice skills in a variety of social work interventions/modalities which include psychosocial assessment, counselling, group work and community engagement.
  4. Excellent demonstrated interpersonal and written communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  5. Demonstrated skills and experience in clinical supervision, education provision, service planning, the development of models of care, and leading and evaluating quality improvement activities.
  6. Ability to build partnerships with key stakeholders to optimise outcomes for children and their families.
  7. Capacity to share after hours and weekend on call duties.
  8. Competent computer skills and ability to adapt to new IT systems.
