What you'll be doing
The Provisional Fellow position in Paediatric Cardiology involves a clinical role within the Cardiology Department at The Children's Hospital at Westmead, within The Sydney Children's Hospitals Network (SCHN), as well as a leadership and educational role. This position provides an opportunity to develop skills important for a consultant role in the inpatient and outpatient setting, with the support from the Consultants as needed. The Fellow also works closely with many of the other clinical teams in inpatient and outpatient care both clinically and strategically. The education role includes clinical supervision within the Cardiology Department as well as the hospital wide education program. 

The Clinical Provisional Fellowship positions in Paediatric Cardiology will include rotation to the Cardiac Unit at Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick. Clinical experience at Westmead Hospital and the Royal Hospital for Women will also be included for most appointees. New, local graduate trainees would be expected to complete 2 years of basic Paediatric Cardiac training with us. The Clinical Provisional Fellows rotate through clinical in-patient and out-patient service, Cardiac Cath Laboratory, and non-invasive studies and research. On-call is one in four giving access to after hour’s clinical material.

Up to one position will be available for applicants without prior Paediatric Cardiology Provisional Fellow experience. More senior applicants may nominate to focus in one of the following superspecialty areas:
* Advanced Imaging – for example Echocardiography, MRI
* Electrophysiology
* Interventional Catheterisation 
These will be allocated based on the needs of the department and in the event of more than one interested applicant, will be allocated as a competitive process. 

Job sharing arrangements for some positions may be considered. Trainees who have completed their FRACP requirements may not be eligible for these positions. The positions are not presently applicable to peer review or top up training. Trainees will be required to provide clinical support across The Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network.

  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
  2. Registered with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) as an Advanced Trainee or equivalent. If registered with the RACP, trainee to have completed a minimum 6 months as an Advanced Trainee with RACP (or equivalent).
  3. 6 months experience in relevant subspecialty or equivalent preferable and experience in Paediatric Cardiology including echocardiography preferable.
  4. Completion of mandatory training as required by RACP or equivalent (if applicant registered with RACP).
  5. Excellent communication, leadership and teamwork skills with demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with other health professionals.
  6. Ongoing commitment to further education and professional development and demonstrated ability to teach, and willingness to participate in the teaching of Medical Students, Junior Medical Staff and other clinical staff.
  7. Understanding of research methodology or research experience and a willingness to undertake research proposal.
  8. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management and demonstrated contribution to the development of hospital services. e.g. participation in Paediatric Junior Staff matters, representation on behalf of the Hospital, participation in Hospital Committees.
