The Role

The Librarian across Prince of Wales Hospital, Sydney Hospital and Sydney Eye Hospital, and Royal Hospital for Women is responsible for delivering a high-quality, customer-focused library service by developing and maintaining collections, systems, and procedures that support clinical, education, and research needs. The role includes supervising and supporting library staff, managing budgets and resource allocation, and providing expert information and research services to facilitate evidence-based practice. 

The Librarian works collaboratively with health service stakeholders to design education programs, deliver user training on key resources such as CIAP and medical databases, and promote library services to enhance engagement and lifelong learning. Additionally, the role involves liaising with ICT, engineering, and security teams to maintain library facilities, while staying informed of emerging trends in electronic resources to ensure access to current and relevant information.

Where You'll be Working

In this role, you will work across a network of leading healthcare facilities within South Eastern Sydney, including The Royal Hospital for Women, Prince of Wales Hospital, and Sydney Hospital and Sydney Eye Hospital. The Royal Hospital for Women is a world-renowned tertiary referral and teaching hospital dedicated to women’s and newborn health, offering a collaborative and research-driven environment within the Randwick Hospitals Campus. Prince of Wales Hospital is a major Level 6 tertiary hospital providing comprehensive acute, outpatient, and community care, known for its innovative models and patient-centred approach. Located in the heart of the CBD, Sydney Hospital and Sydney Eye Hospital combines a rich historical legacy with modern, specialist services, delivering high-quality care in areas such as general medicine, hand surgery, and ophthalmology, all within a vibrant and highly accessible city setting.






Selection Criteria

To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the below questions as thoroughly as possible.
 

  1. Relevant degree and eligibility for Associate (professional) membership of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA)
  2. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a professional team; showing initiative, setting priorities, managing staff and budgets, and balancing the demands of a complex working environment
  3. Demonstrated excellent liaison, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, including the ability to build relationships across a range of professional and disciplinary areas
  4. Demonstrated high level analytical and computer literacy skills to assist clients with enquiries related to software packages, email and basic PC troubleshooting
  5. Demonstrated experience in advanced searching of bibliographic databases and the internet in support of evidence-based practice
  6. Demonstrated ability to provide education to staff in the use of bibliographic databases, the internet and other library resources
  7. Demonstrated strong working knowledge and understanding of library management systems
  8. Willingness to travel in the course of employment
