What you'll be doing
The Fellow also works closely with many of the other clinical teams in inpatient and outpatient care both clinically and strategically. The education role includes clinical supervision within the Department of Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery as well as the hospital wide education program. This Fellowship aims to provide a solid foundation for clinical care and for research in paediatric otolaryngology.
The position will also involve:
• Experience within the ENT department through eight attending ENT surgeons, two accredited RACS ENT-Head and Neck Surgery training positions
• A well-rounded medical and surgical experience including management of paediatric otological conditions including otologic implant surgery, airway problems including endoscopic and open laryngeal and tracheal procedures, nasal and sinus disease, as well as congenital, inflammatory and neoplastic disorders of the head and neck
• Contribution to clinical research is expected, and supported
• A teaching experience gained through resident and medical student programs, conferences, and staff contact.
• Exposure to a variety of specialized clinics including infant deafness clinics, cleft palate clinic, microtia clinic, vascular anomalies clinic, sleep study unit, craniofacial disorders and voice clinic
• An opportunity to enhance decision-making abilities in routine, complicated, and urgent clinical situations.
• Regular on-call can be expected.
Successful applicants will gain exposure to all forms of paediatric otolaryngology and clinical research.
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category
- Registered with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) as an Advanced Trainee or equivalent; or has attained RACS Fellowship in Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery or equivalent
- Completion of mandatory training as required by RACS or equivalent preferable
- Sufficient prior experience such that completion of this Paediatric Provisional Fellow Training would permit a reasonable expectation of appointment at a consultant level to a tertiary paediatric ENT surgery unit
- Excellent communication, leadership and teamwork skills with demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with other health professionals
- Ongoing commitment to further education and professional development and demonstrated ability to teach, and willingness to participate in the teaching of Medical Students, Junior Medical Staff and other clinical staff
- Understanding of research methodology or research experience and a willingness to undertake research proposal
- Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management and contribution to the development of hospital services e.g. participation in Paediatric Junior Staff matters, representation on behalf of the Hospital, participation in Hospital Committees preferable
